Campervan conversion

In 2017 part of my life journey took me with my partner to leave “normal life” and look for a van to travel Australia. Buying a van is a journey in itself and it took us 6 months and several thousands of dollars extra. But when you feel it is right, you gotta go for it. To me this was one of the greatest moment I have experienced, because you know inside of you, it is your house!! And in our case my first house on wheels!

Buying the van is great!! But it came empty with zero set up! A long learning curve started and believe me there is soooo much to learn to set up a van properly.
Insulation, roof space, electrical, general design, choice of materials, battery banks, weight distribution, cooking system, there is a lot to consider.

First of all, it is a good idea to start with money. How much can you spend in your system? If money is not an issue then no worries but if you are tight on budget then there are other things to consider. Where will you get your materials? There are actually places that sell second hand, recycled or even construction site material that would end up at the tip.

When we started designing, we were tight on money and did not get the best material quality for the build but you gotta do with what you have.
Another very important question you will need to ask yourself is where will you get tools to do your build? Because you need a lot of tools for different jobs!!!

During this experience Youtube was my greatest ally, but experience is what really counts at the end of the day.
Building campervans can be nerve breaking and really stop you from sleeping at night, believe me I already went through this.  But after 2 years, travelling, working and improving the van I am now confident about what I am doing and take pleasure working on the van.
